Guideline for Nominating Candidates for the 5^rd (FY 2013) The Tokyu Foundation for Better Environment Social Contribution in Academia Award

The Tokyu Foundation for Better Environment

In commemoration of our 35^th anniversary since inauguration, the Foundation established a program for presenting The Tokyu Foundation for Better Environment Social Contribution in Academia Award in August 2009 with the objective to invigorate academic learning in Japan. (The Foundation became a public interest incorporated foundation, including changing its Japanese name, in October 2010.)

This fiscal year will mark the presentation of the 5^rd Social Contribution in Academia Award. The information is as follows:

1. Eligibility of Candidate

The candidate shall be a researcher who has made outstanding academic and social contribution (in research studies, advancement of science and technology, government policies, activities, etc.) in the environmental field (environmental conservation, energy, recycling, waste, etc.). (The candidate can be an individual, partners, a group, or a foreigner doing research in Japan. Corporations are not eligible.)

2. Social Contribution in Academia Award

One award: award certificate and cash prize of 500,000 yen

*The award is presented to basically one candidate per award. Joint research or group research is also considered as one candidate.

*Among candidates recommended in last year from this year, I am examined as a person targeted for arts and sciences prize except this prize prize winner.

3. Nominating Entity

The Foundation will make a request to environment-related academic societies and associations to nominate candidates (attachment).

4. Number of Nominations

Basically, one entity can only nominate one candidate.

5. Nomination Period and Deadline

Nomination Period: April 1 – August 31, 2013

Deadline (received by): August 31, 2013

6. Method of Submission

Please fill in all necessary items in the Nomination Form provided by the Foundation (on the Foundation’s website) and submit the form by mail before the deadline. Please note that all submitted documents will not be returned.

7. Selection

The Foundation’s Selection Committee will review all nominations and select the award winner.

The entity making the nomination and the award winner will be notified of the selection result in early October 2013.

8. Award ceremony for the Social Contribution in Academia Award

Scheduled to take place in Tokyo in November 2013.

9. Others

All personal information obtained for the presentation of this award will only be used within the scope of this purpose.
